HandsOn Shanghai Green Party

On December 18th 2011 the HandsOn Shanghai Green Party was held. At four o’clock in the afternoon partners, volunteer team leaders and friends came to our volunteer center to celebrate with us. There were a lot of things for them to do. Everyone took crazy and imaginative pictures with silly and funny masks and hats in one of the rooms to have a great memory of this day. In another room they played board games. There were eleven board games in total and on every table people were squeezing together so that everyone could participate. In yet another room everyone could show how flexible their body is and play a round of twister or dancing. It was a lot of fun. Since we knew that everyone would become thirsty and hungry from all the activities and games, a delicious buffet in our pantry was provided.

Everyone was also able to further understand our programs in another room and enjoy hundreds of photos taken on various activities this year.

At six o’clock the official part of this evening started. In this part HandsOn Shanghai’s progress this year was introduced and awards were given to the characteristic volunteers and team leaders of 2011.

The party finished with a poem, performed by all HandsOn Shanghai staff.

Volunteering at the Shanghai Children's Hospital is Chicken Soul

Every time I went to Shanghai Children Hospital from the bustling city, I found the meaning of life because of loving. My first volunteer activity in CereCare Center six years ago is because of my friend's advice. I had not a deep feeling about volunteer and felt very sorry about could not be a volunteer all the time. But now I can share more experience after participating in music volunteer activities for one year. Generally the piano in the hospital lobby is just a furnishings if no volunteer play it. And you could not image how happy the children and their parents listen to the music.

New Program Announcement: Xinzhuang Elderly Center

Beginning in late 2010, HandsOn Shanghai and the Minhang District Government began a new program to benefit the Xinzhuang Elderly Care center. Built in 2009, the XinZhuang Town Elderly Care Center is new facility with 260 elderly residents (averaging 85 years old) who are supported by 88 care givers, yet loneliness, boredom and depression are still common issues.

It is a facility whose equipment and rooms offer a great space for volunteers to bring some joy, laughter and happiness, and we hope that you will join us during our next activity at the center.
