The Xuhui Elderly Care Center is a comprehensive care facility for elderly residents of Shanghai. In addition to providing food and housing, the Xuhui Elderly Center holds exercise classes and supports calligraphy groups to encourage an active and healthy lifestyle for the residents. In-house nurses and doctors provide medical assistance. The center houses about a hundred residents, many of which are over eighty years old.
In 2006, Hands On began hosting one-off events at the elderly center, which included repainting and refurbishing building facilities.
In 2007, Hands On began its regular volunteer programs visiting elderly residents. Our current programs invite volunteers to join the residents in their rehabilitation classes and to host BINGO game sessions for the residents.
Our program aims to improve the quality of life of senior citizens. As volunteers, we use fun activities to build relationships and help them to lead active lives.
Volunteers visit elderly residents on Saturdays. Our activity usually inculded:
1) play different kinds of games with the elderly
2) do rehabilitant exercise together with them
3) free chatting
